How can I get an exotic pet?
In the state of Florida, we are required to obtain a Class 3 Pet License through FWC.
You can go online to their website gooutdoors.com, in the section wildlife permit.
I always recommend the ESC class three for only $50 a year or the ESC.
Make sure you know your states regulations because laws vary between states.
How long does a primate live?
Marmoset lifespan can live up to 16 years in captivity. With an average life span of 7 years, with
the proper care, can have a long lasting companionship.
Squirrel monkeys and the lemurs live typically 15-20 years but can live all the way to 30 years.
What do the monkeys eat?
Most of the primates eat lots of fruits and veggies but also eat a large variety from eggs to nuts
and insects. We like to keep it different for our animals and provide a wide spread of different
foods. A well-balanced diet is best though because they can eat almost everything we eat, too
much sweets can make for an unhealthy pet.
Do they make good pets?
Everyone has their own opinion on this topic, but me and many others believe with the proper
care, space and time these can make some of the most unique companions. Owning an exotic
pet can stop your possibility of traveling though, being there are no boarding places as there is
for cats and dogs. But if you have a trustworthy friend or family member travel can be no issue.
What type of space do they need?
Each species has their own required spacing which most of our customers keep their animals
inside free with a small cage to go to sleep in. You can access all species specifics on FWC
website.
Can they be trained?
Yes these animals can be trained and diaper trained just requires your time and dedication to
your new pet. Some can be litter or pad trained as well.
Common health issues?
With babies they can be more susceptible to health issues so make sure to always hand
sanitize. Do not share food and try not to have too many people hold them. Some other health
issues can be gastrointestinal, bone disease, and viral infections. Alas with proper light, proper
feeding and supplements can help prevent some common concern.
How do I spot a scam?
People in this industry can spot many scammers, most are found online asking for a rehome
deposit. I recommend to get videos not only of an animal but the person holding them as well.
You should also use something such as video calling for real time. We all should have access
via Social Media and other apps so you know who you are working with and see what you are
planning on buying.
What type of climate do they need?
Most of the animals we have are tropical region so they love warm weather and sun light.
With babies we require you to have a heating pad on the day of pick up and recommend to
keep inside the enclosure. If the heating pad has multiple settings, we recommend to keep it
on the lowest setting otherwise it may get too hot for your new baby.
Are they compatible with house hold animals?
We have had many of our monkeys with cats and dogs for many years as well as many of our
`customers that keep multiple animals inside. With work and dedication and proper
introductions these animals can coexist happily.
